In recent years subscription boxes have become increasing popular among beauty, hair-care, and skincare brands. Companies such as Birchbox and Ipsy have become household names, with Birchbox having over 800,000 subscribers to date. Being able to test out new products, for a small recurring fee, is exciting and new to beauty lovers everywhere. Personally, I subscribe to both Ipsy and Play by Sephora, which both send me five to six sample and full sized beauty items each month. Both boxes provide me with the ability to try new and old favorites, but each have their own quirks that enable the buyer to choose which subscription is best for them.
Ipsy "Glam Bag"

Let's start with taking a look at Ipsy's January "Glam Bag", a chic cosmetic bag that pulled inspiration from the busy city of New York. I have been a subscriber of Ipsy for about a year now, and this bag has been one of my favorites to date. One of my favorite aspects of this subscription service is the reusable bag that comes with my samples, they are always of great quality, and perfect for throwing in a large handbag. In this specific bag I got a full size Ciate London Gelology top coat, a sample size Pur-Lisse Blue Lotus Seed mud mask, a sample size of theBalm's Bahama Mama bronzer and highlight, a Naked Cosmetics eye shadow in "Desert Sunset #2", and a Beaute Basics Crown Brush.
To break it down, for $10, billed monthly, Ipsy will send you a "Glam Bag" with five products inside ranging from sample sizes to even full size products. To further your experience each month, you can download their app which explains each product and allows you to review them to further personalize future bags. This is a great option so you are truly getting what you want or need each month.

"Play! by Sephora"
Another great subscription box option is the brand new "Play! by Sephora", I was an early subscriber to this program, and I've been hooked. The best part of this subscription service is all the products are always very high quality, as expected since it's coming directly from Sephora. In January's Play Box I got six sample sized products ranging from hair-care to foundation. Inside I found a Clinique Almost Lipstick in "Black Honey", a small vial of Tory Burch "Love Relentlessly", a Youth to the People Kale and Spinach cream, a AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact, an Ouai hair mask, and a tarte FRXXXTION Stick Exfoliating Cleanser.
For $10 a month as well, you will receive a cloth bag with six deluxe samples inside for you to try. Also in the package you will receive a detailed pamphlet explaining each product and how to use them, as an added bonus for frequent Sephora shoppers (like me) you will get 50 bonus points on your next purchase, which can help you build towards even better rewards. Although the products are not personalized, you get a wide array of different items each month to help you explore new categories of beauty.
Finding the right subscription box can be tough, but never be afraid to spend money on either of these options since the value of both bags are extremely high. They allow you to experiment with beauty, and find new favorites. I cannot wait to get my bags each month!
