I checked a few items off my bucket list a week ago, from seeing beautiful Niagara Falls, to flying in an airplane by myself, to meeting the past editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan! How? I attended my sorority's International Leadership Forum in Buffalo, New York.

I am currently the President of the Alpha Rho Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon, which means I was able to attend the forum as first delegate for my chapter. The weekend included amazing seminars, meetings, and key note speakers. One of the most notable speakers was Kate White, who was able to share her wisdom with around 500 sorority sisters.

Kate White is a New York Times Bestselling author, and was the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine for 12 years, and is an absolutely incredible speaking. After hearing her talk, I felt as if I could be "gutsy" and take over the world. For most of the speech she talked about how being gutsy got her to where she is today, and how you too can be gutsy and get things done.

"What stands between you and the success you want is that you don't feel ready" White noted as she began her speech. As she went on to explain her doubts when accepting her position as editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, she warned us to never be afraid of something that seems out of reach, because "gutsy doesn't hold back."

This resonated with me, due to the fact that I was recently elected president of my chapter. It was a position I always dreamed of having, but of course I had my doubts. Could I be in charge? Could I make a difference? Am I ready? White told the crowd that you "have to redefine ready" and remember that you don't have to be 100% qualified, but instead say "yes and then figure it out."

She left us with a task at the end of her speech, "come up with one gutsy thing you're going to do, and on Monday you will do that one gutsy thing." My gutsy move is in the works, and I'll of course update you all when it's official!

After listening to White speak, I have a newfound courage when tackling the position of president. I know now that I have to be gutsy, speak my mind, and never hold back. I'm ready put on my "power blazer" and take on my new position.
